Poundland Halloween DVDs 2015

A few years back Poundland surprised us all with a selection of well known horror classics and then followed it up with cheesy 50s B-movies the following year - all entertaining. However for the past couple of years we've just had digitally shot straight to DVD movies that fail to excite - the sort of substandard movie that if you saw them was advertised as showing on the Horror Channel, you'd probably give them a miss!

This year there's again a selection of movies you've never heard of and probably never will again. There were a couple that I'm sure I'd seen advertised on the Horror Channel and had chosen to avoid after seeing the trailers. However I did walk away with a BluRay of a Spanish werewolf movie the 2009 Universal remake of 'The Wolfman' starring Benicio Del Toro (OK, I know it's not supposed to be great either - but it must be worth a quid!), and as a guilty pleasure, the 1991 sequel 'Omen IV The Awakening' which apparently follows the usual law of diminishing returns for sequels. Aware of its poor reviews I still bought it as my Omen box set just has the first 3 films. I'll keep an eye out just in case any more items of interest are added, but for some of the other titles on sale, you can look at the picture below.

ASDA Halloween 2015

Well it seems that locally Asda have been the first of the major supermarkets to put out their Halloween decorations. There was the usual fare of child friendly decorations, costumes and partyware - nothing that I felt particularly tempted to buy... however for anyone without a loft full of decorations there is plenty here that is reasonably priced to put on a good party.

Of more interest are the odd items, usually slightly more expensive and often with motion sensors in them. This year there was the antique design phone that rings when approached

Similarly a bust of a shrouded zombie head that animates and it's eye glows red.

A candy bowl with a rubber hand that reaches forward if you attempt to put your hand in the bowl.

And my favourite, the doorbell which when pressed causes a glowing eyeball above to  open and survey the visitors.

There were also some nice ceramic back skulls too.

Morrisons Halloween Beers 2015

So far this year the big supermarkets have been a bit slow in putting out their Halloween decorations - possibly as a result of alcohol sales for the Rugby World Cup or the influx of Star Wars guff for the forthcoming movie. However, Morrisons have got their seasonal Halloween beers in, and are offering some good deals.

Pumpking Ale, Blond Witch, Pendle Witches' Brew and the dark Shepherd Neame Spooky Ale are all tasty beers and at £1.17 per bottle or 2 bottles for £2 are excellently priced. Also on the shelves are Ghost Ship and Black Wych for £1.65 per bottle. So get them while they last.

Halloween at the 99p Store

Again the usual bags of sweets, cheap costumes accessories and disposable decorations. Nothing exciting, but again a cheap way to decorate out a house for a Halloween party.

Halloween at Poundland

Poundland has started putting its Halloween decorations out. Again, what do you expect for a pound? Actually if you want to kit out a party you can't go far wrong here. But for the Halloween collector there's nothing to get overly excited about. Let's hope the DVDs that usually get put out towards the end of September yield some obscure or classic titles.

Halloween at The Range

Another shop that's quick off the mark to get its Halloween decorations out. The Range is a huge warehouse style shop that caters for most things from art materials to furnishings to plants at normally cheap prices - so don't expect everything to be top quality or top brands. But since a lot of Halloween products are cheap and disposable it is nice to see what they have on offer.

Needless to say with all the boxes of stuff I have and the inevitable storage issues I didn't feel too tempted, but there were some items that differ from other stores. Again there are a plethora of costumes, bunting, tea light holders and wall hanging decorations. For me the dog skeleton was one of the better items, as were the giant wall hanging bat and the shower curtain.
