Folkestone's Sea Monster

As part of the 2011 Triennial (Folkestone's tri-annual contemporary art festival) Charles Avery has created the remains of a hybrid mythical creature found floating in the shallows where the Qoro-qoros meet the Occluded Ocean. The remains now reside in the gallery above Folkestone library and appear to be a hybrid of horse, snake and wallaby!

The ghosts of Halloweens past...

The other weekend I was assisting a friend in collecting Halloween goods held in storage before the place where the goods being stored was sold. Sadly there were too many boxes and not enough car space and many vintage items ended up being junked. However one flyer that fell out of a box recalled memories of the Halloween parties that Folkestone's newest and best (at the time!) nightclub held in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

I'd completely forgotten that the restaurant next door was called the Café De Paris. The Parisienne nightclub is now called Onyx and by all reports is something akin to a cattle market at weekends now. So here's a little memento to those of a certain age who remember when Folkestone was a little more alive... or should that be...

Taste the Blood of Dracula

'Trick or treat, smell my feet...'

I was given this as a present recently and can't believe I missed these last Halloween! Asda the supermarket chain in the UK, owned by Wallmart put out some different character socks from their usual fare of Simpsons and Muppets socks.

So I now have Christopher Lee about to bite my ankles...
