As the exhibition at the British Library is only a few minutes from St Pancras train station on my way home, I popped in again for a bit last Wednesday and here are some more images from various guides and postcards I picked up.
The first is just the free guide leaflet and the smaller image some exhibits from the exhibition... At last I can show the steampunk K-9!
Next come some images starting with an illustration from 1687 postulating different knigdoms on earth, the sun and moon, through to late 19th century and early 20th century images on travelling to other worlds, how the world will end (by invading sea monsters) to a rather conservative depiction of Martians!
This time I also found listening posts to listen to all sorts of sci-fi inspired songs from the obvious mainstream Bowie, Elton John & Carpenters to more obscure and progressive bands like The Orb & The Flaming Lips, criss-crossing all other genres and decades... there's even the classic 1950s tune - The Martian Hop!
This is an exhibition worth a visit if you are interested in Sci-Fi literature, and the accompanying book is very informative too.
