More from TK Maxx

Again nothing to my liking, but the decorations keep coming in and turning over so someone out there is buying them! Although there is a large selection of pumpkin spice candles this year... and if I didn't already have lots already I might've been tempted.

Carry On Screaming

Well it's not really a Halloween post... but whilst on a walk in the town of Deal yesterday I walked past the house of the late Charles Hawtrey, and since he starred in 'Carry On Screaming' I thought the photos deserved posting.

TKMaxx restocks

One week later and TK Maxx's display is growing. Still nothing extraordinary that I want to buy yet... (I have rather a lot of decorations already, so one has to be a bit choosy these days).

If you are a 'Little Shop Of Horrors' fan there are 'Audrey 2' resin models; and there is an interesting witches broom with hands and hat attached!

The Haunting of Hill House play

Easing in to the Halloween season this week by going, with a couple of friends, to see an amateur production of The Haunting Of Hill House put on at the Herne Bay Little Theatre.

The play was the 1960s adaptation by F.Andrew Leslie and not the more recent Hammer adaptation and the action restricted to 6 scenes across 2 rooms - Eleanor's bedroom and the lounge. So this means that the play misses some of the key action seen in the film version - for example the memorable spiral staircase scene happens off stage. The script for me also seemed to lack the subtleties of Shirley Jackson's writing. And the lack of a sound effect for Eleanor's off stage car crash near the end made Eleanor's final appearance open to interpretation and perhaps not clear for some puzzled members of the audience.

Anyway, on the whole it was a good night out. One has to get used to the fact that in a small amateur theatre group, the ages and personalities of the characters may not necessarily reflect those as written on the page, but the stage design was excellent for a small production as was the sound effects of the paranormal happenings. And Arthur Parker, Mrs Montague's travelling companion, was played so overly camp in contrast to the brashly written character in the original that stands as the antithesis of Mr Montague, somewhat stole the show and it was worth going just to see this comedy performance.

Anyway the night we went the theatre was sold out, so that stands a a testament to the cast and theatre and their supporters.

The first actual Halloween 2019 display in town...

Well I just happened to be in TKMaxx Folkestone when the shop assistant was putting out the first of the boxes of Halloween decorations today in their own display area. (Apart from the Halloween themed mugs as reported last month, which were in the mugs and flasks section.)

To be honest there wasn't anything too appealing yet. The ceramic cat heads (not seen in the photo below) with gaping mouths to put candy in is not my sort of thing, neither were the glass pumpkins or the skull decorations. However the rustic looking pumpkins made from what look like dyed and twisted palm leaf strips were more in keeping with my tastes. Won't be long until more goodies get put out...

The Devil is in the detail...

I went to a friend's wedding last weekend, and I am sad to say I took no pictures of the bride and groom at all; just this medieval carving of the Devil in Saltwood Church, near Hythe, Kent, England.

Lost again!

Sadly failed to find the first Halloween decoration of the year. I thought mid-August would be the first sighting... but July!!! Well done Lynda for sending in two photos from TK Maxx. The Cat mugs though are rather exquisite and at only £3.99 each.
